Hebrews 11:1 defines faith as: “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”
The online dictionary provides this definition of faith: “Faith is a strong, often unquestioning belief, trust, or confidence in a person, idea, or, in a religious context, in God and divine doctrines without requiring physical proof. It implies firm conviction and allegiance, acting as a personal conviction that can guide one’s actions, life, or spiritual path.”
Considering the above two definitions of faith, we learn the following about Biblical faith:
Biblical faith is in Someone we cannot see. That Someone is the triune God: God The Father, God The Son and God The Holy Spirit.
Biblical faith trusts in the one and only God we cannot see. It is a conviction that He exists and wants to have a relationship with us.
Biblical faith provides confidence when life is rocky.
Biblical faith obeys the One in whom we have our trust, our relationship.
Biblical faith gives hope that carries us through each day, and will one day be replaced by sight when we are with Jesus in person.
Biblical faith is different than unbiblical faith. Unbiblical faith is not grounded in the Creator of the Universe. It has no solid foundation, and can change like the wind changes direction.
Biblical faith has its foundation in God, who through speaking brought all into existence – including you and me. Therefore, Biblical faith is in the One who is consistent in character, is all powerful, all knowing and omnipresent – and so much more than we can understand. That is what makes Him God and fully trustworthy!
The Bible also has these truths regarding faith:
Hebrews 11:6: “And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.”
Do you want a relationship with the living God, the One who created you? I’m grateful that in 1987 God opened my eyes to show me that I needed Him. He helped me, by His Holy Spirit, to establish a relationship with Him. But Godhas also helped me to establish intimate fellowship with Him.
I want everything God is offering, and all the rewards that come through fellowship with Him. It takes the relationship to a higher level!
You also can have a relationship with God. It takes time and effort. It comes when we spend daily time in His Word, reading and digging deeper through study. Relationship requires communication with God by the enabling of His Holy Spirit. Spending time with other people who follow Christ diligently is also how we build our fellowship with our amazing God.
Matthew 21:22 instructs: “And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”
Faith impacts what we are asking of God. He is looking for people who ask because they trust Him to provide the correct answer. That means we are open to His answer being different from the answer we originally requested.
2 Corinthians 5:7 instructs: “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
Our daily lives are lived moment by moment trusting God because we simply cannot see or know what He does. When I walk by what I see, my decisions are faulty, but God mercifully works through them and brings about good for me. But when I walk conversantly with God throughout my day, it is even better. I’d rather have what is better than just what is good!
Ray Stedman made this statement regarding faith:
“Faith believes that God has revealed something about the future; not everything, but something. And what he has revealed is quite enough for us to know. Faith seizes upon a revealed event and begins to live in anticipation of it. Therefore, faith gives our life a goal, a purpose and a destination. It is a look into the future.”
How much of your day do you live by Biblical faith, trusting in the all efficient and all sufficient God who created you? If He is not the priority in your life, what is holding you back from making Him your priority?
Jesus died to pay for your sins. Do you realize you are a sinner needing His complete gift of salvation? If not, why not take that step this moment? Please email me at: ButGodCares@gmail.com if you have any questions about Biblical faith.
